Jerry Long was born Sept. 24, 1947, to the union of Jacob Long Sr. and Ida Jane Long (Payton) in Franklinton. As a youngster, he accepted Christ at New Jerusalem Baptist Church.

Jerry received his formal education in Washington Parish, and later joined the U.S. Army, serving our country. He later moved to Detroit, Mich., and was employed by the Ford Motor Company. He loved to cook and enjoy his family and friends.

Jerry departed this life on June 14, 2021. He was preceded in death by his father, Jacob Long Sr.; his mother, Ida Jane Long; two brothers, Billy Joe Long and John Anthony Long; a daughter, Krystal Smith; a grandson, Blake Smith; and a granddaughter, Brittany R. Long.

He leaves to cherish his memories: a son, Jerry Lynn Long of Detroit; a daughter, Lynette (Raimundo) Cruz of Connecticut; two brothers, Jacob Long Jr. of Rochester, N.Y., and Earl Long of Oswego, N.Y.; three sisters, Gloria (Anthony) Ampah of Alabama, Dorothy Cotton, and Georgia (Jeffery) Warren of Franklinton; two sisters-in-law, Elaine Long of Milwaukee, Wis., and Gloria Long of Rochester; and a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A drive through viewing will be held on Monday, June 21, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Crain and Sons Funeral Home in Franklinton.

Services will be 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 22, at Plainview Church of Christ Holiness with Pastor Albert Brumfield officiating. Burial will be at Plainview Cemetery.
