Drug take-back event
Nielsen’s Pharmacy, located at 1619 S. Columbia St. in Bogalusa, will have a drug take-back event on Saturday, April 24, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Accepted items will include expired prescription drugs, unwanted prescription drugs, over-the-counter pills, controlled and non-controlled substances. Un-accepted items will include liquid products, injectable drugs and syringes.

Adams Cemetery meeting
The annual meeting of the Reuben Adams Cemetery will be held Sunday, April 25, at the cemetery. Due to COVID-19, no meeting was conducted last year; therefore, funds are needed for the upkeep and maintenance of the cemetery. If you are unable to attend the meeting, a Reuben Adams Cemetery account is available at any Citizens Savings Bank location. For additional information, call 985-732-7401.

Bingo returning
Bingo at Magic City Post No. 24, American Legion, will resume on Thursday, April 29, at 5 p.m. The jackpot will be determined by the size of the crowd. The Legion is pledged to the support of both God and Country and must ask volunteers and guests always to attire themselves with protective masks to the full extent required by our governmental officials.

Clear warrants in Washington Parish
Got traffic or misdemeanor warrants? Missed a court date? Work with community organizations and District Attorney Warren Montgomery to clear your warrants in Washington Parish. This event will be Saturday, May 1, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Washington Parish Fairgrounds in Franklinton. Pre-registration is required. This program does not apply to charges involving a victim or property damage. Participants in the warrant clinic will not be arrested.

“Believe” performing arts camp
The “Believe” five-day performing arts camp will be returning to Bogalusa this summer. The camp includes singing, dancing and acting, taught by internationally experienced professionals from Los Angeles and New York City. The cost is $120 per student, and limited spaces are available. Register online at www.believecamp.com. This camp is open to third-grade through 12th-grade students. It will be held at Bogalusa High School on Monday, July 5, through Friday, July 9, from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Yoga and meditation classes
Riverstone Gallery and Holistic Art Center, located at 415 S. Columbia St., offers a variety of yoga classes throughout the week. Tuesdays is “Gentle Yoga” at noon — this is perfect for beginners, seniors or anyone who wants to take it slow. Tuesdays also has “Yoga Flow” at 6 p.m. — this class focuses on the breath, and is slow to moderately paced. Thursdays is “Meditation Yoga” for all ages and abilities. Saturdays is “Gentle Yoga” at 11 a.m. — an easy-going pace, with a focus on flexibility and relaxation. Classes are $12 each, or purchase a four-class pass for $40. COVID-19 vaccines available
Rural Behavioral Health Services, located at 59448 Highway 10 W. in Bogalusa, has COVID-19 vaccines. Call 985-732-0253 for appointments. Walk-ins welcome. To receive your vaccine, bring a photo ID, proof of insurance (if applicable) and know your date of birth. Hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until noon and 12:30 p.m. until 4 p.m.

Public wi-fi locations
The Washington Parish Library System recently acquired state funding to boost their existing public wi-fi in order to further assist the students of Washington Parish who must do class work virtually. The signal at each branch has been strengthened considerably and usage is unlimited by any number of people. Each branch also has Hot Spots to check out to patrons who have limited access to internet at home or live in rural areas with little internet access. Bogalusa Help Center
Bogalusa Help Center, the local food bank, is now a drive-through operation located at 350 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. It is open from 8 a.m. until noon every Wednesday (except the fifth Wednesday of a month), providing food to those in need in our community. Since partnering with Second Harvest Food Bank/USDA, and with generous donations from our community, BHC now distributes 35 to 40 pounds of food to each client each month, serving over 400 families each month. These distributions include canned goods, meat, dry beans, peanut butter, fresh fruit and vegetables, and more. New clients can apply each week. They must provide the following to determine qualification: name of head of the household; driver’s license or ID; address; number of persons in the household and ages; and SNAP or SSI printout, or proof of income of all in the household. Ongoing services at the Bogalusa branch library
• The Bogalusa branch of the Washington Parish Library offers a variety of services throughout the year. Faxing is available for $1 per 20 pages, and copies can be made for 20 cents each (black and white) or 50 cents each for color. There is also free computers for use — the first five copies are free, and it is 10 cents a copy after the first five.
• If you are an E-book reader, check out the selections offered by the Washington Parish Library in partnership with four other library systems.
• Patrons have free access to ancestry.com at any Washington Parish Library, and free access to heritagequest.com from any home or personal device, as well as a large selection of genealogy materials at the Bogalusa and Franklinton branches.
• The Bogalusa branch receives current copies of local and national newspapers, as well as popular magazine publications. The public is invited to sit in the comfortable reading center to enjoy their favorites.
• For students, the Homework Louisiana website offers a variety of assistance methods, including a live online tutor, “Skills Builder,” homework help and tutoring for kindergarten through basic college level, a writing center, a career center and an adult education center.
