A Bush man was killed Thursday in a two-vehicle accident in St. Tammany Parish, according to the Louisiana State Police.
LSP Sgt. Dustin Dwight of the Public Affairs Section said that troopers from LSP Troop L were dispatched Thursday, shortly before 6 p.m., to a crash on Louisiana Highway 21 near Nolan Lane. The crash claimed the life of Randy Len Dupriest Jr., 34, of Bush.
Dwight said that the initial investigation led troopers to determine that the crash occurred as Dupriest was traveling northbound on Highway 21 in a 2018 GMC Sierra. Dupriest’s vehicle reportedly traveled into the southbound lane and struck a 1995 Peterbilt tractor trailer head-on. Despite being properly restrained, Dupriest sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased on-scene, Dwight said.
The driver of the Peterbilt was also properly restrained. He was transported to an area hospital, where he was treated for injuries sustained in the crash.
Troopers do not suspect impairment on the part of the driver of the Peterbilt, Dwight said. As part of the ongoing investigation, standard toxicology tests are pending analysis.
“Please take a moment to speak to your loved ones about the importance of safe decisions in the vehicle, every trip every time,” Dwight said. “Remind them about preventable measures such as wearing a seatbelt, avoiding distractions and never driving impaired. Taking these precautions could be all the difference in the event of a major crash.”
