Mrs. Jessie Lee Magee Edwards, a devoted wife and mother, was born to the late Matthew and Ardella Magee on Dec. 5, 1930, in Bogalusa, and was affectionately referred to as “Dot.” She departed this life on March 3, 2021.
Jessie married Elder Hubert Edwards Sr., and to this union there was born eight children. The union lasted 71 years until her husband’s death.
She was a member of St. John Elizabeth Church of God, where she was a faithful member until her health fell. She served many years on the usher board; Jessie was very intentional about raising her children in the church. She had a very strong faith, as well as a deep love for God.
Some of her finest moments included being given the opportunity to work in the church; Jessie had a passion for cooking, sewing, reading and serving God.
Jessie Edwards leaves to cherish her memories: three daughters, Brealan (Jerry) Wells of Bogalusa, Carroll (Olu) Cole of South River, N.J., and Vanessa (Fabian) Legard of Baton Rouge; three sons, Hubert (Eleanor) Edwards Jr. of North Carolina, Beanie Ray Edwards of Biloxi, Miss., and Timothy Bruce Edwards of Bogalusa; a special stepdaughter, Angernell Jackson of Somerset, N.J.; very special granddaughter, Sheri Bourdeaux of New Orleans; 12 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Sister Jessie Edwards was preceded in death by her husband, Elder Hubert Edwards Sr.; her parents, Matthew and Ardella Magee; one son, Jeffery Edwards; one daughter, Patti Edwards; one sister, Emma Weary; three brothers, Howard, Earnest and Matthew Magee; and a grandson, Alfrey James Mannah.
A drive-through viewing will be held Friday, March 12, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. at Crain and Sons Funeral Home in Bogalusa.
The funeral service will be Saturday, March 13, at 11 a.m. at St. John Elizabeth Temple Church of God in Christ, with Elder Eric Clayton officiating. Interment will follow in Bogalusa Cemetery.
