James Edward Abernathy, 58, resident of Bogalusa, passed away at Our Lady of the Angels Hospital in Bogalusa on Jan. 1, 2021. He was born in Chicago, Ill., on June 28, 1962. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, also served in the U.S. Coast Guard and was currently working as a Correctional Officer with the Tangipahoa Sheriff’s Department.
He is survived by his daughters, Stacey Abernathy, Tina Fish and Rebbeca Abernathy; his brothers, Johnathan Abernathy, Christopher Abernathy, Matthew Kolus and Anthony Kolus; three grandchildren, Gabriell Abernathy, Nicole Fish and Alexander Fish; and two great-grandchildren, Thomas Abernathy and Octavia Abernathy.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Tammie Lee Abernathy; and his parents, Aaron Lee Abernathy and Ann Elizabeth Huling.
Services to celebrate his life will be held Wednesday, Jan. 6, at Poole Ritchie Funeral Home, with visitation starting at 12:30 p.m. and remaining open until 2 p.m. in the chapel. To conclude the services, he will be given Military Rites by the U.S. Army.
