On Wednesday, just before 1 p.m., troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to a fatal crash on Louisiana Highway 16 west of Louisiana Highway 1074 in Washington Parish. The crash claimed the life of Ciarra N. Carr, 17, of Mandeville.
Trooper Jeremy Price said that the initial investigation led troopers to determine that Carr was northbound on Choctaw Road in a 2001 Ford Escape when she disregarded a stop sign entering Highway 16 in front of a 2006 Freightliner 18-wheeler. The Freightliner impacted the Escape on its driver’s side, Price said. The Freightliner rolled over and impacted a utility pole as well as a gas line before coming to a stop. Price said that the gas line ignited and reportedly engulfed the Freightliner in flames.
Although Carr was properly restrained, she sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on the scene. The driver of the Freightliner was able to exit his vehicle with minor injuries, Price said.
Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash but as part of the ongoing investigation, blood samples were collected from Carr for scientific analysis.
