Sally’s track shifts east, weather warnings canceled in parish

The projected traveling path of Hurricane Sally has shifted east, and it now appears as if local impact will be minimal, according to the National Weather Service in New Orleans.

On Monday afternoon, the NWS was still listing a hurricane warning and flash flood watch for Washington Parish. The hurricane warning was canceled Monday evening, and the flash flood watch was canceled Tuesday morning.

The storm now appears as if it will make most of its impact along the coasts of Mississippi and Alabama.

As of Tuesday morning, there was still a storm surge warning and tropical storm warning for St. Tammany and Tangipahoa parishes.

The NWS forecast for the next few days in Bogalusa is as follows:

  • Tuesday morning/afternoon — Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2 p.m. Cloudy, with a high near 84. Northeast wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
  • Tuesday evening — Tropical storm conditions possible. Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm. Cloudy, with a low around 73. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
  • Wednesday morning/afternoon — Tropical storm conditions possible. Showers likely, with thunderstorms also possible after 2 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 83. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
  • Wednesday evening — Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 8 p.m., then a chance of showers. Partly cloudy, with a low around 70. Northwest wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent.
  • Thursday morning/afternoon — A slight chance of showers, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 85. North wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.
