On Monday morning, officials with the Washington Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness stated that a “voluntary evacuation order” has been issued for residents who live in low-lying areas prone to flooding.
If residents have experienced flooding in the past, officials urge them to move to higher ground Monday while there is still daylight and before Hurricane Sally makes landfall.
Residents who live in structures unable to withstand hurricane-force winds, such as mobile homes or campers, are encouraged to take shelter with family and friends, or at either the Bogalusa High School or Franklinton High School shelter locations. Shelters will open Monday evening at 6 p.m.
