Richard Ellis Lowery, 66, of Baton Rouge, a devout Christian and U.S. Army veteran, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2020. Richard was born on Aug. 13, 1954, in Bogalusa, to the late John Henry Sr. and Aldonia (Jefferson) Lowery. Richard recently retired from Woman’s Hospital and was a faithful member of Jubilee Christian Center.

Richard is survived by his loving wife, Cynthia; two daughters, Sonya Wilson of Bogalusa and Cassidy Taylor of Baton Rouge; two step-sons, Vernon and Terrell Hoffman; his brothers, Raymond Lowery (Theresa), Lawrence Lowery, and John H. Lowery Jr. (Nicole), all of Massachusetts; his sisters, Vergie Downer (Sydney) of Hartford, Conn., Cynthia Penton Bell and Debra Johnson, both of Massachusetts, Joanne Lowery Wells of Concord, N.C., and Alice Faye Reynolds (Marcus) of Hampton, Va.; a grandson, Joshua; a grand-daughter, Arielle; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Leroy Lowery Sr., the Rev. Dr. Robert Earl Jefferson Sr., Willie Wayne Jefferson and Rowen Lowery; as well as his sisters, Barbara Simmons, Katie Marshall and Brenda Lowery.

A gravesite service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 7, at Louisiana National Cemetery, 303 W. Mt. Pleasant Zachary Road in Zachary.
