Sister Mattie Grindle Sandifer was born March 7, 1937, to the late Mr. Willie Grindle and Mrs. Ollie Mae Andrews Grindle and she departed from her earthly house to her home in glory at the age of 83 on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2020, at her residence in Bogalusa.

Sister Mattie Sandifer was a dedicated member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Douglas Hart. She served on the Usher Board and also the City Wide Usher Board.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories: two children, Shanda Alford Hines and Willie K. Holloway, both of Bogalusa; grandchildren, Charamine Hines Baker and Marvin K. Lundy, both of Bogalusa; one sister, Edwina Bournes of Chicago, Ill.; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her father and mother, Willie and Ollie Andrews Grindle; one son, Clifton Sandifer; four brothers, Willie Grindle Jr., William Grindle, Samuel Grindle and James Grindle; and three sisters, Mildred Watts, Delois Esco and Ollie Mae Brister.

A drive through viewing will be held on Friday, Aug. 28, at Crain and Sons Funeral Home in Bogalusa from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m.

A private graveside service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 29, at the Bogalusa Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Douglas Hart, pastor, officiating.
