Mt. Hermon native promoted to major in Louisiana State Police

On Thursday, Col. Kevin Reeves, Louisiana State Police Superintendent, promoted Capt. John E. Riles to Region I Patrol Major.
Riles was born and raised in Mt. Hermon. He obtained a BA from Southeastern Louisiana University in Criminal Justice and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Louisiana State University. Riles is also a graduate of Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command.
Riles began his LSP career in 1990, and upon graduation from the Louisiana State Police Academy, was assigned to Troop L in Mandeville. He rose through the ranks at Troop L and was selected to serve as the interim Commander of Troop N in New Orleans before returning to his role as Troop L Executive Officer. Riles served as the Troop L Commander from April 13, 2017, to Aug. 13, 2020.
Region I encompasses Troops A, B, L, and N and consists of 263 personnel.
