Melanie Lisa Patterson, a retired L.P.N. and life-long resident of Washington Parish, passed away on Aug. 3, 2020, at the age of 63, after a prolonged battle with cancer.

Lisa was born and raised in Bogalusa. She attended and graduated from the L.P.N. Course at Sullivan Vo-Tech. Following graduation, she spent time working at Good Samaritan’s Nursing Home and Heritage Manor, before spending the remainder of her career at Family Medical Clinic in Franklinton. Family, God, and her animals were the most important things to Lisa. She opened her home and fostered dozens of cats and dogs over the years. She found comfort in helping, even when she was struggling to make it through the day. The greatest thing about Lisa was her spirit. Her battle with cancer began nearly twelve years ago. Through the countless bouts of chemo, radiation, and operations, she persevered. She met each obstacle head-on and with a fierce defiance. She managed to watch her grandkids grow, saw her daughter graduate from LSU Nursing and took pride that she went on to become a Nurse Practitioner, but the most important thing is that she lived and will always be an inspiration to her friends and family.

Lisa was preceded in death by her mother, Patricia Patterson.

She is survived by her son, Roy Adcox Jr.; daughter, Melissa Adcox Lumpkin; son-in-law, Michael Lumpkin; grandson, Zayne Lumpkin; granddaughter, Madison Lumpkin; grandson, Myles Lumpkin; brother, Keith Patterson; beloved aunt, Pat Patterson; and numerous cousins.

Memorial plans are underway and will be announced in the coming weeks. Arrangements have been entrusted to Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home and Crematory. Condolences may be shared on the Poole-Ritchie website at www.pooleritchiefuneralhome.com.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Lisa’s name to your local humane society.
