Obituary of James Paul (J.W.) Witherspoon Sr.

Honoring the Life of a Faithful Servant

James Paul (J.W.) Witherspoon Sr. was born on May 20, 1935, to the late Will and Elizabeth Hill Witherspoon in Maury County, Mt. Pleasant, Tenn.

As God commanded his soul to be at rest, J.W. departed from his earthly life on May 31, 2020, at his residence in his favorite music room in the arms of his wife Doris Marie Witherspoon. His love and precious memories will forever be cherished in the hearts of his loving wife, family and friends and the lives he touched with his musical talents.

James was the father of nine children, and a host of grandchildren and great- grandchildren. At an early age, he accepted Christ as his personal Savior. He was a member of Concord Missionary Baptist Church, where he donated his musical talents. He was united in holy matrimony to Doris Marie Robinson Jenkins on May 17, 2003.

Mourning but celebrating his victory in Christ is his loving and faithful wife, Doris Marie Witherspoon of Clarksville, Tenn.; sons, James Paul (Natalie) Witherspoon and Aundre (Shemeka) Jenkins; daughters, Sharon Witherspoon of Washington D.C., Pamela Witherspoon of New Castle, Del., Linda Booker of Mt. Pleasant, Karen Howard of Clarksville, Twila Evette Hill of Killeen, Texas, Beverly (Darrell) of Canton, Mich., and Renee (Earl) Henry of Temple, Texas; a special granddaughter, Iola Witherspoon Williams; and two special nephews, Walter Partee and Willie Witherspoon.

He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Charity (Chat) Booker Frierson and Buck Frierson; parents, Elizbeth Hill Witherspoon, Father, Will Witherspoon; four brothers, Harvey Witherspoon, Solomon Witherspoon, Will Witherspoon and Joe Witherspoon; and three sisters, Juanita Witherspoon Brown, Mae Pearl Witherspoon Partee and Alberta Witherspoon.

Adhering to the Coronavirus Pandemic and honoring the wishes of the late James Paul (J.W.) Witherspoon Sr., his wife Doris Marie Witherspoon has made the following arrangements. Neptune Society of Nashville cremated his remains. Remains will be held in state at his residence with his wife Doris until May 14, 2021, at which time his remains will be transported to The Kentucky Veterans Cemetery in West Hopkinsville, Ky., for full Military Honors at 11:30 a.m. A High Tea will be held in his honor for close family and friends at his residence from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., hosted by Better Choice of Living Inc. On Saturday, May 15, 2021, the “Honoring the Legacy of a Faithful Servant” ceremony will take place at Concord Missionary Baptist Church, 2411 Peachers Mill Road in Clarksville, Tenn., at 11:30 a.m. with Pastor Delbert Brown officiating. Mayolta Mallory is in charge of arrangements.

James’ obituary will be posted on the Neptune Society website for one year at www.neptunesociety.com for viewing and posting condolences.
