The National Weather Service is reporting that Washington Parish could see rough weather on Easter Sunday, particularly in the afternoon and evening.
The NWS reported Friday morning that there is a “moderate risk” of severe weather for the Florida Parishes area, including Washington Parish, this weekend. The dangers include possible wind gusts up to 60 mph, which could down trees and power lines, along with hail up to one inch in diameter.
In addition, there could be the formation of tornadoes, some of which could be strong and long-tracked, according to the NWS.
The NWS reported that based on its forecasts and model guidance, all types of severe weather will be possible Sunday. The timing could change, but as of Friday’s forecast, it was determined that the weather will likely arrive Sunday afternoon/evening and continue possibly overnight into early Monday morning.
NWS officials said that although there could still be some shifts or adjustments to the forecast, it is recommended that there is a heightened risk for the area. The “moderate risk” area includes the far northern Florida Parishes in southeastern Louisiana, as well as bordering southwestern Mississippi counties.
The NWS rating system has “slight risk” as the lowest level, followed by “enhanced risk” and then “moderate risk.”
