Tom “Bubba” Ellis Johnson was born Oct. 27, 1931, to the late Rev. Joseph Johnson Sr., and Alma Pittman Johnson in Bogalusa. He was married to Doris Patten Johnson, later to Minnie Lewis Johnson. Tom was a member of Sweet Beulah Baptist Church in Bogalusa, where Rev. James Magee is pastor. He sang bass and loved singing in the choir until his health failed.

“Bubba” was a handy man. He enjoyed mowing lawns and gardening. In his past time, he would listen to his favorite gospel music and sing gospel songs with his family … and let’s not forget his hot cup of coffee he thoroughly enjoyed. No matter how hot it was outside, he still wanted his coffee. He was kind to others and always had a friendly smile.

Tom was preceded in death by wives, Doris and Minnie; brothers, Ernest Taylor, Joseph Johnson Jr., and Rev. Willie J. Johnson; and sisters, Twin-Baby Girls Johnson, Viola Taylor Cole, Selena Johnson Wooley, Kathleen Johnson Henry and Hazel Johnson Steptoe.

He leaves to mourn: a brother, Eddie Johnson Sr.; a stepsister, Mary Galloway; a special niece, Jeanette Johnson; and a host of nieces and nephews.
