Gary Don Wheat Sr. passed away at his residence in Angie on March 8, 2020, at the age of 80. He was born in New Orleans on Sept. 27, 1939. He was a longtime member of Hilltop Missionary Baptist Church, where he taught the adult Sunday School class for 29 years.

He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Versie Seals Wheat; his son, Gary Don Wheat Jr.; two daughters, Sandra (Tate) Kennedy and Pamela Alford; his grandchildren, Makayla (Trevor) Thompson, Savanah Kennedy, Sarah Kennedy, Alexis Lott and Adam Lott; and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Douglas “Chessie” (Kathleen) Wheat.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Lena Wheat; and his sister and brother-in-law, Deloris Miller and Shelton Miller.

Services to honor his life will be held at Hilltop Missionary Baptist Church in Angie on Wednesday, March 11. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. with Masonic Service at noon and the funeral service beginning at 1 p.m. The Rev. Mark Hobgood, the Rev. Donnie Broom, and Bro. Everette Broome will officiate. Interment will follow at the Hilltop Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
