State Rep. Malinda Brumfield White (D-Bogalusa), who represents Louisiana House District 75, was named to the House Ways and Means Committee for the upcoming legislative session.

On Thursday, Louisiana Speaker of the House Clay Schexnayder (R) announced committee assignments for House Appropriations and Ways and Means committees. White was one of 18 members chosen for the Ways and Means Committee. She is one of five Democratic Party members on the committee.

“I’m excited to announce the makeup of the two major financial house committees today,” Schexnayder said. “The decision making process for each committee has been deliberate and I believe you will see a reflection of both the body and the core conservative principles which guides it.”

Schexnayder is expected to announce the remaining committee assignments in the coming days.

Republican Stuart Bishop is the chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, and fellow Republican John M. Stefanski is the vice chairman.

In addition to the two officers and White, the other committee members are Gerald “Beau” Alphonse Beaullieu IV (R), Ryan Bourriaque (R), Marcus Anthony Bryant (D), Rhonda Gaye Butler (R), Phillip DeVillier (R), Leslie “Les” Farnum (R), Jason Hughes (D), Barry Ivey (R), Jeremy LaCombe (R), Wayne McMahen (R), Buddy Mincey Jr. (R), Richard James Nelson (R), Tammy T. Phelps (D), Neil Riser (R) and Matthew Willard (D).

The Ways and Means Committee is the chief tax-writing committee of a legislative body.
