“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:7).
Mrs. Mattie Pearl Carter Wallace, 93, was born March 1, 1926, in New Augusta, Miss., to the late Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell (Ella) Carter. She departed this life on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2019, at Heritage Manor Nursing Facility in Franklinton. She was married to the late Mr. Jessie Wallace, who preceded her in death.
She was a member of Thirkield United Methodist Church and she loved her church dearly. Over the years she served in different capacities at her church (choir member, communion steward, historian, etc.). She was a graduate of Central Memorial High School and once served as “Ms. Central,” which was something she was very proud of. For many years, she lived and worked in South Bend, Ind., and would visit her family often in Bogalusa.
Mrs. Wallace had a great admonition for her pets, “Kenny G” and “Lilly.” They kept her on the go and she loved it.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Ella and Mitchell Carter; three sisters, Mary Elizabeth, Minnie Lee and Emma Ray; and her son whom she adored, Mr. Alvin C. Carter.
She will be fondly remembered and loved by her granddaughter, Ms. Alvia Carter in Leesville; grandsons, Mr. Carlos Cater of Ft. Worth, Texas, Mr. Derrick Carter of Las Vegas, Nev., and Tony and Jamison Carter of St. Paul, Minn.; five great-grandchildren; five nieces and nephews; and other family and friends.
Visitation will be on Saturday, Dec. 28, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., followed by a short memorial service at Cook-Richmond Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Bogalusa Cemetery.
