Aline J. Hobgood Sorrell was the blessed and adored daughter of Edna Williams Hobgood and Ellie Warren Hobgood born unto them on Dec. 26, 1941.
Both her parents preceded her in death, as did her sister, Azzie Lee Crain, and her brothers, Willie F. Hobgood (Arlene) and Woodrow Hobgood.
Aline was raised in the Pine community of Washington Parish, where she attended and graduated high school. She would be taken from Pine to Bogalusa after a young sailor named Tommy Sorrell decided she had to be his wife. After marrying Tommy Sorrell on March 31, 1960, they had four daughters: Jo Ann Saltaformaggio (Anthony), Melinda Durand (Ken), Tommie Gail Sorrell, and Kimberly Sorrell. Their daughters blessed them with four grandsons: Matthew Durand (Becca), Ryan Durand, Jared Saltaformaggio and Joseph Sorrell. Aline cherished her grandsons but was even more enriched when two twin great-grandsons entered the picture: Peyton and Zachary Durand. Aline always had a special relationship with her sister-in-law, Dolly (Woodrow) Hobgood who she adored as a sister. She also loved her large array of nieces and nephews.
Aline always made her home smell of old-time favorites. She nourished and loved her husband and children. She enjoyed the art of macramé, crochet, and anything dealing with creating love and memoires. For example, every year her children always had a homemade and decorated birthday cake. Holidays were filled with chaos, fresh-baked love and stories of simpler times. In her dying days, she held on until all her children returned home. She said to her family, “Meet me in Heaven.” She then said numerous times how beautiful it was — the place prepared for their everlasting home.
Her visitation was held at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home on Friday, Dec. 13, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The Rev. Marcus Rosa officiated her funeral service at 2 p.m.
Serving as her pallbearers were John Douglas, two of her nephews, Johnny and Keith Hobgood, and three of her grandsons, Matthew Durand, Jared Saltaformaggio, and Joseph Sorrell. Interment followed at Hillview Memorial Gardens.
