Vallerine Whitaker, 95, a resident of Bogalusa, departed this life on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2019. She was born on Aug. 9, 1924, to Elmer Rodgers Sr. and Mary Norris Rodgers in Bogalusa.

She is survived by one son, Norris Whitaker of Denham Springs; three daughters, Carolyn Shabazz of Moreno Valley, Calif., Octavia (Thomas) Robinson of Zachary, and Dianne Whitaker of Bogalusa; and two sisters, Rose (Harold) Anderson of Decatur, Ga., and Rebecca (Fate) Ferrell of Bogalusa.

Vallerine was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Whitaker Sr.; her parents, Elmer (Mary) Rogers Sr.; four sons, Larry Whitaker, Theodore W. Davis, Donice C. Whitaker and Harold Whitaker Jr.; one daughter, Lillian Hogans; one grandson, Eric Shabazz; and nine brothers, Elmer Jr., Emmit Sr., Kenneth Ray, Charles, John Henry, Clarence, Talbert George, Leroy and Donald Ray Rogers.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Nov. 23, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. at Greater Salters Chapel A.M.E. Church, 920 Dan St. in Bogalusa, with the Rev. Willie Gauthier officiating. Interment will be in the Bogalusa Cemetery.
