Betty Jean Newkirk was born Nov. 18, 1950 to the late Rosa Sheridan Newkirk and Frank Newkirk in New Orleans. Betty departed this life at the age of 69. She left this earthly life and transitioned to her period of eternal rest at Rest Haven Living Center in Bogalusa on Friday, Oct. 25, 2019.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her husband, Sidney R. Mingo of Varnado; son, Wayne Washington of Varnado; two brothers, Oscar Newkirk of Columbia, Miss., and Benjamin Newkirk of Varnado; three sisters, Dorothy(Allen) Pittman, Josephine Newkirk, both of Bogalusa, and Willie Mae (Arthur) Wall of Varnado; four grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Jerry Newkirk; and parents, Rosa and Frank Newkirk.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Oct. 31, at the chapel of Crain and Sons Funeral Home in Bogalusa from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. The funeral service will be Friday, Nov. 1, at the funeral home at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Linza R. Cotton officiating.
