Bogalusa police are investigating an armed robbery and shooting that took place earlier this week, according to Maj. Wendell O’Berry of the Bogalusa Police Department.

O’Berry said that the BPD responded at 5:30 a.m. Monday after receiving a call about a shooting victim who was at the Choctaw Motel, located at 1313 S. Columbia St. in Bogalusa.

O’Berry said that when officers arrived to the motel, they found a male victim who had been shot in the leg. An officer made a tourniquet to combat the bleeding, and Northshore EMS arrived to transport the victim to the hospital, O’Berry said.

O’Berry said that investigators determined the victim was a truck driver who was walking behind a nearby store and was preparing to go to work.

“He was approached by a black male subject wearing a ski mask,” O’Berry said. “The subject pulled a gun on him and robbed him.”

O’Berry said that the victim tried to knock the gun away during the robbery, but was shot in the leg during the scuffle. The robber reportedly stole the victim’s cell phone and fled on foot.

“The victim was shot in the left leg, but was able to walk to the motel, where he was able to get somebody to call police and EMS,” O’Berry said.

O’Berry said that officers have some leads in the case and are still investigating. He expects there to be an arrest made soon.
