Augustus Magee Sr. was called by his angels on Oct. 6, 2019. He was born April 5, 1933 in Clifton, to Wiley and Rosa Magee. He joined the New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. He met and married Rodah Bickham on Aug. 9, 1952.
Augustus was active in the the U.S. military from April 20, 1953, through 1955. He worked at the Bogalusa Papermill from 1957 until the early 60s. He started a career as a longshoreman from the early 60s until the early 80s. He was a Sunday school teacher for over 30 years until his health started to fail.
He leaves to cherish his memoires: his wife, Rodah Magee; his daughters, Sandra (Bennie Ray) Davis of Franklinton, and Jurunist (Roger) Mills of Baton Rouge; daughter-in-law, Debbie Magee of Covington; his grandchildren, Bennie Ray Davis Jr., Augustus Magee III, Courtney Magee, Rodeshia Morris, and Chelsia Magee; two god-grandchildren, Montreal Tate and Latoya Miles; two great-grandchildren; special nieces, Clara Jean Graves and Alexine Magee; sisters-in-law, Corine Magee, Catherine Magee, Rita Riley, Audrey Tate, Mary Bailey, Rosa Franklin, and Delores Rushing; a brother-in-law, Mitchell Bickham; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his children, Augustus Magee Jr., Glenda Magee, Linora and Lynora Magee; a great-grandchild, Jodaria Levi Conner; his parents, Wiley Magee and Rosa Magee; brothers, Wiley Magee Jr. and Leroy Magee; and also a cousin raised as a brother, Archie Magee.
Visitation will be held Saturday, Oct. 19, from 11 a.m. until noon at New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church at noon, with the Rev. Johnny Causey, pastor, officiating.
