Margaret O’Neal

On Sunday, Sept. 8, 2019, at 7:45 a.m., God dispatched an angel to St. Tammany Hospital in Covington, to bring his daughter Margaret O’Neal to her heavenly home. Her earthly journey was over and he needed a teacher to cover a vacant classroom.

Sister O’Neal graduated from Central Memorial High School and later attended Grambling College (University), receiving a degree in Elementary Education, and becoming a teacher in the Bogalusa City School System for 32 years at Poplas Elementary and later at Superior Avenue Elementary.

Sister O’Neal was a dedicated member of Sweet Beulah Baptist Church. She actively participated in various organizations.

Margaret was the only daughter of nine children born to the late Ollie Hill Sr. and Willie Mae Hill on July 27, 1929. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Reverend John D. O’Neal; five brothers, James, Marshall, Robert, Ollie Jr. and Willie; and two sisters-in-law, Marilyn and Jane.

Left to mourn her memory are three brothers, Roy Lee (Jewel), Charles Edward (Joan), and Garvice L. (Thelma); one sister-in-law, Laverne; nieces, Renee, Patsy, Claretta, and Carmon, all of Chicago, Ill., Raquel and Rosalend of Atlanta, Ga., Denise and Shanti of Richmond, Calif., and Shelia of Bogalusa; nephews, Ennios of Chicago, Willie of Connecticut, Anthony, Roy, and Chad of Bogalusa; and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Visitation will be Monday, Sept. 16, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Crain and Sons Funeral Home in Bogalusa. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, Sept. 17, at 11 a.m. at Sweet Beulah Baptist Church, with the Rev. James Magee, Pastor. Interment will be at Bogalusa Cemetery.
