Henry Harrison has announced his “second retirement” from the LSU AgCenter in Washington Parish.

Harrison originally worked at the LSU Ag Center for 40 years (from 1972-2012) as the county agent and parish chairman. He returned upon request in 2014, to serve in the same position part-time.

Harrison announced this month that he plans to retire once again, at the end of August.

Amy Long-Pierre will serve as the Interim Parish Chairman/Administrator. She is the Parish Chairman in St. Tammany Parish. Mary Helen Ferguson will be the Agriculture/Horticulture Agent serving Washington/Tangipahoa parishes.

Harrison was chosen as the 2017 Franklinton Citizen of the Year.

Some of Harrison’s other civic duties and volunteer efforts include: member of the Washington Parish State Park Steering Committee, member of the Washington Industrial Development Foundation (past and current president), member of the Washington Men’s Club, member of the Washington Parish Tourism Commission, and member and past president of the Kiwanis Club. He has also been heavily involved in the Washington Parish Free Fair, serving as the Agriculture Building chairman.
