Sharon Harry

Sharon Ann Harry, 66, was born on Jan. 16, 1953, in Bogalusa and departed this life July 20, 2019, in Tyler, Texas. At an early age, she attended Metropolitan Baptist Church in Bogalusa, under the leadership of Rev. McEwen. She graduated from Bogalusa High School, class of 1971. She attended Dillard University, class of 1975, and attained a Bachelors of Arts in Accounting. She was a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. Sharon attended Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Wiona, Texas. Sharon loved her church, where she served on the pastor aide committee and various other organizations.

She was employed at Dow Chemical as an Accountant and transferred to Houston, Texas. She then became a Senior Accountant for Delta Drilling and moved to Tyler in 1982. She was honored in Oklahoma in the American Society of Women Accountants, and acknowledged in the Who’s Who in Executives and Business. She went on to work as an auditor for UT Health Center. She later opened, owned and operated her own business and served as the Director of Storybook Childcare Center on Houston Street in Tyler.

She leaves to cherish her memories: three biological daughters, Yoshiko LaToi Harry of Lewisville, Texas, Chloe (Bryan) Williams of Mansfield, Texas, and Tailer (Jamal) Black of Lindale, Texas; her mother, Pauline Torrence of Bogalusa; father, Hezekiah Torrence Sr. of Bogalusa; sister, Veronica (Billy) Thompson of Pearland, Texas; brother, Hezekiah Torrence Jr. of Bogalusa; nephew, Hezekiah Torrence III of New Orleans; nephew, Antoine Torrence of Virginia Beach, Va.; great-nephew, Tylar Russell Redditt of Saint Gabriel; grandchildren, Jaiylin Black, Jamir Black and Laila Williams; three non-biological children that she loved as her own, Toriano Harry, Eliora (Nathan) Harry-Pearson and Michael Harry; and her god-daughter, Carmen Denise Mark.

She was preceded in death by her niece, Tiffany Redditt; grandparents, Maria Torrence, Howard Torrence, Lena Dunn and Sylvester Robinson; and a favorite aunt, Geraldine Jefferson.

The funeral service was Friday, July 26, at 12:30 p.m. at Metropolitan Baptist Church, located at 1640 Charlevoix St. in Bogalusa, with the Rev. M.J. Galloway, pastor, officiating.

Interment was in the Bogalusa Cemetery.
