Leon Seal

Leon Bascom Seal, 86, a resident of Varnado, was born on Dec. 28, 1932, in Varnado and passed Tuesday, July 9, 2019, at his home after a year-long battle with cancer.
He served in the U.S. Navy until June 1954, where he served on the USS Holder and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. He was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church of Varnado, where he served as an usher. He was an electrician at the paper mill and retired after 40-plus years. He was an avid fisherman and loved to garden. Every chance he got, he attended his grandchildren’s sporting events. He was their biggest fan.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Wilma Warner Seal; three sons, Dennis (Sherry) Seal of Franklinton, Timmy (Missy) Seal of Varnado, and Barry (Amy) Seal of Franklinton; five grandchildren, Derek (Summer) Seal of Franklinton, Logan Seal of Baton Rouge, Madysan Seal of Biloxi, Miss., and McKinley and Kaylan Seal of Franklinton; one great-grandson, Wyatt Seal of Franklinton; two sisters, Sylvia (Kenneth) Slade of Angie, and Annette (Mike) Thomas of Varnado; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Pollyann Williams Seal; four brothers, Perry Seal, Milton “Bear” Seal, Hilton “Honey” Seal, and Silmon “Poochie” Seal; and two sisters, Mattie Lee Easterling and Norma Plaunche.
A Memorial Service will be held at First Missionary Baptist Church, 25546 Pearsoll St. in Varnado, on Saturday, July 13, starting with visitation at 10 a.m. until the service time at 11:30 a.m. with Bro. Kelly Penton officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the building fund at First Missionary Baptist Church of Varnado.
