Ethan Wayne Swanner, 17, passed away Thursday, June 13, 2019. Ethan was a rising senior at Indian Land High School and a lineman for the ILHS Warriors football team. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to be in the woods and enjoyed exploring trails in the mountains of North Carolina. Ethan worked part-time at Freddy’s Steakburger’s and spent most of his paycheck and spare time on his beloved 1965 Mustang.

Ethan is survived by his parents, Brian and Samantha; his younger brother, Caleb; and his faithful German shepherd, Tabasco. He is also survived by his grandmother, Ellen Culpepper Swanner of Bogalusa. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Royce Wayne Swanner, also of Bogalusa.

Visitation was held 6 pm Friday evening, June 21, at Palmetto Funeral Chapel in Ft. Mill, S.C. A memorial service at Palmetto Funeral Chapel will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 22, with the Rev. Barry Yates officiating.

Ethan’s family extended to his close friends and his teammates on the football field. During Ethan’s week-long fight for survival, his team showed incredible strength of character and camaraderie by ensuring that Ethan’s hospital floor knew the meaning of ILHS’s “Warrior Spirit.” In lieu of flowers, the Swanner family requests donations be made to the Indian Land High School Warriors football program. Checks made directly to Indian Land High School may be donated during visitation or the memorial service, or with a gift made through GoFundMe. All donations will support the team Ethan loved and who will miss his presence on the field during his upcoming senior year.
