The Washington Parish Library’s four branches kicked off their summer reading program last week, with a visit from the MetroPelican Opera performing their version of “Hansel and Gretel” to children at the Bogalusa, Enon, Franklinton and Thomas branches.

Shown are Franklinton library attendees enjoying the show. The children watched the program and then got to take a group picture with the cast mates and crew. After the performance, the children were able to ask questions and learn more about opera.

The next summer reading program activity will be Curtis Pierre, also known as the “Samba Man” of New Orleans. He will have an interactive and energetic program to trace the origins of African drumming. He also is a nationally ranked balancing and juggling artist.

Summer reading program times are: Wednesday, June 12 — Bogalusa at 10 a.m. and Enon at 2 p.m., and Thursday, June 13 — Franklinton at 10 a.m. and Thomas at 2 p.m.
