Last weekend’s rain caused damage to Cassidy Park.
City Parks and Recreation Director Landon Tims said there are a lot of areas that are washed out.
“It’s not as bad as it has been in the past, but it is still bad,” Tims said. “We’re going to have to repave some of the road. The bathroom building in the back took a big hit. It washed out from under it. There’s a big gaping hole, so we’re to have to fill it in to get it back. The playground’s washed out, but all of the playground equipment seems fine. The splash pad is fine. In terms of damage, we have a lot, but in terms of severity of floods in the past, we didn’t get a lot of damage. It’s still a serious situation, but we’ve seen it before and we tell ourselves it’s not as bad as before to keep our morale high because the citizens deserve a nice place to go like Cassidy Park.”
Tims said the back of the park is closed.
“We’d like to let the public know the back of the park is closed and please don’t pass any locked gates,” Tims said. “However, otherwise, we’re going to try to leave the front of the park by the deli open. We have a good business there and we don’t want to have to close the park to where he can’t operate his business.”
Tims said the timeline for the back of the park reopening is still to be determined as of Thursday afternoon.
