The Washington Parish Library recently received a generous grant from International Paper Foundation. This grant specifically encourages children to read by providing new books on interesting subjects.

Children’s books will be ordered for each of the four branches of the Library System. The grant will enhance the Summer Reading Theme for 2020 — “Imagine Your Story.” Another part of the grant allows the library to purchase incentive books for each child who participates in the Summer Reading Program.

The library is currently taking registration for its 2019 Summer Program — “A universe of Stories.” Free, professional performances are scheduled from June 5 through July 10 to entertain and enlighten curious minds and to enhance their summer experience.

All of the artists performing are locally based in southern Louisiana. Everyone is encouraged to participate in the program. The performances are interactive and enjoyable to all ages.

Last summer, the Washington Parish Library had more than 500 children involved in this program. Check with any local library or online (washingtonparishlibrary.info) for information on summer reading programs, story times, and other programs and activities.
