Bogue Chitto State Park in Washington Parish has benefited from the efforts and hard work of the Northshore Off-Road Biking Association (NORBA), resulting in four miles of singletrack mountain bike trails for visitors to enjoy.

Phase I of the two-part project includes the four miles of trails, signage, and trail head. Volunteers spent a total of 1,140 work hours clearing land then developing and marking the trail. Local businesses sponsoring this project include the Friends of Bogue Chitto State Park, International Paper, PayrollRX, Pelican Athletic Club, Hurley Electric, The Bike Path, Brooks Bike Shop, Bike Zone, Spokesman Pro Bike Works, Swirl Wine Bar & Market, the Louisiana Chapter of Q50 Races, and Autin’s Cajun Foods LLC.

The organization has raised $5,000 toward a master plan for phase II planning and construction, which will include additional trails, staging areas, bridges, and more. Efforts are also underway to develop highway signage to promote the new bike trail at the state park. Maps for the recently-completed phase have been submitted to the MTB Project, Trailforks, and Singletracks websites which are the most-referenced sites by mountain bikers in the U.S.

The Northshore Off-Road Biking Association (NORBA) promotes trail riding and the development of sustainable trails. Trail and membership information for NORBA can be found on their website, norbatrails.org, or follow the organization on Facebook.
