Myrtis Williams

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:7).

On Thursday, March 28, 2019, the spirit of Sister Myrtis L. Williams, known as “Mama Myrt,” arose and went to heaven.

She was the third child born to the Late Deacon Cage H. and Emma Burton Hart.

She joined Hayes Creek at an early age and accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior under the spiritual leadership of the late Rev. Linwood Bolton Sr. As an active member of the church, she was a member of the Senior Choir, Financial Secretary, Pastor’s Appreciation Committee, The Mission, Announcement Clerk, and the Prayer Band.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Deacon Cage H. and Emma B. Hart; and five sisters, Eddie Mae Melton, Vergie Lee Hart, Mable Hart, Etta Dean Hart, and Curlean H. Butler.

Sister Myrtis was united in holy matrimony to the late Ivy Williams and was blessed with six children.

Her beautiful life will forever be cherished by: her children, Robert E. Williams of Katy, Texas, Jerry L Williams of Franklinton, Cage Williams (Stephney) of Franklinton, Lenzy R. Williams of Bogalusa, Brenda D. Green (Nettles Green Jr., deceased) of Baton Rouge, and Ivy Lavell Williams (Christiana) of Ridgeland, Miss., and brother-in-Law, Peter Butler Sr. of Baton Rouge; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Friday, April 5, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m., followed by a family hour from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m.

The funeral service will be Saturday, April 6, at noon at Greater Hayes Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerome Warren, pastor, officiating. Interment will be at Greater Hayes Cemetery.
