Dennis “Denny” Michael Bufkin, a native of New Orleans, and a longtime resident of Franklinton, died Saturday at the Baton Rouge General Hospital – Bluebonnet Campus in Baton Rouge, at the age of 66. He was a long-time diesel mechanic, and also member of the Bogalusa Moose Lodge. He was a very generous person and had a big heart of gold.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Holden Bufkin; son, Cory (Theresa) Bufkin of Tallahassee, Fla.; daughter, Michelle (Jason) Sones of Franklinton; five grandchildren, Caitlin Sones, Colby Pierce, Brady Sones, Mackenzie Maxwell, and Lance Bufkin; three brothers, John “Butch” (Wilda) Bufkin Jr. of Bogalusa, Kevin Bufkin of Monticello, Miss., and Brian (Pam) Bufkin of Metairie; and sister, Emily (Neil) Martin of Franklinton. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He is also survived by his cruising the coast buddies, Jimmy Breland and Charles Ingram.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Marion Bufkin Sr.; and sister, Barbara Ann Bufkin.

A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 13, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m., and continuing on Thursday, March 14, from 10 a.m. until the funeral services begin at 2 p.m.

Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home on Thursday, March 14, at 2 p.m., with Bro. Eric Williams and Bro. Ed Penton officiating. Interment will follow in the Brooks-Martin Cemetery in Thomas.
