Franklinton Police Chief Justin Brown said that the Franklinton Police Department is currently investigating a shooting incident that took place Friday afternoon.

Brown said that on Friday at approximately 3 p.m., the FPD received a 911 call in reference to a gun being fired outside the Fairground Apartments.

“Upon the officers’ arrival, an individual was observed lying on the ground with an apparent ankle injury,” Brown said. “The subject was subsequently transported to the hospital for treatment.”

Brown said that the following investigation revealed that the injured victim and another individual had “allegedly engaged in an altercation over the sale of narcotics.”

“During the altercation, a handgun was produced and fired,” Brown said. “One subject fled on foot, while the other was left on the ground suffering from an injury.”

Brown said that no one was injured due to the gunfire.

Patrolman Thomas Mitchell detained the fleeing individual a short time later, Brown said, while Patrolman 1st Class Anthony Cox and K-9 Finley conducted a back track of the individual’s last known direction of travel.

Brown said that the investigation is still ongoing, but charges are expected to be filed.
