Byrd Avenue Primary School recently held a Health Fair on Tuesday, Feb. 19, remembering the life, legacy and contributions of the late Dr. Gerald Berenson.

BAPS principal Ellen Taylor welcomed the special guests for the day — Dr. Ji Hua Xu, cardiologist at LSU in New Orleans; Acy Hartfield; Anita Woods; and Terri McMillan.

Several students performed a short program in honor of Dr. Berenson. The students also created posters of his accomplishments, which were displayed. Berenson’s special colleagues and friends, Xu and Hartfield, reflected on his achievements.

On behalf of Berenson’s family, a plaque was presented in his honor to Xu and Hartfield by Sandra Lusk, physical education/health teacher at BAPS. Nutritional refreshments were served after the program.

The BAPS principal, faculty and staff would like to thank all guests and parents for making the event a successful health fair. Byrd Avenue Primary School always strives for excellence as it prepares children to learn and grow together.
