Katherine Kennedy

Katherine Rose Dixon Kennedy, 90, a resident of Covington, died early Sunday morning, Feb. 17, 2019 at Lakeview Regional Medical Center. She was a former longtime resident of Franklinton. Katherine was married to the love of her life Ray Kennedy for 50 years. She was a registered nurse and the director of the Washington Parish Health Unit for over 20 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Franklinton, where she taught Sunday school for many years and started the exercise class for her peers. Katherine enjoyed dancing and, alongside her husband, participated in square-dancing events throughout the area. She loved reading and traveling, especially her favorite Branson, Missouri. Katherine had a special place in her heart for her pet Shih Tzu “Zoe.”

She is survived by: son and daughter-in-law, Barry Ray and Edna Kennedy of Franklinton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Katherine Janis Lewis of El Dorado, Ark., and Rebecca June and Ron Legere of Mandeville; six grandchildren and spouses, Mary Catherine and Cade Corbell of Tulsa, Okla., Claire Elisabeth and Nathan Gertson of Springfield, Mo., Brendan Patrick Ross of Austin, Texas, Barry Jason and Amanda Kennedy of Houma, Jeremy Ray and Ali Kennedy of Camby, Ore., and Justin Scott and Emily Kennedy of Franklinton; three great-grandchildren, Graham Floyd Gertson, Connor Francis Kennedy and Annie Rae Kennedy; brother and sister-in-law, Vance and Marlene Wascom of Abita Springs; sister, Shirley Cesario of Bogalusa, her daughter and son in law Sandy and Gerrod Seifert and their daughters Paige Tyler and Jamie Seifert; nieces and nephews, Nicole and Eduardo Menendez and their children Jose and Miguel, Lance and Taura Wascom and their children Fiona, Jude, Dane and Sadie; and cousins, Elaine Smith and her sons Donnie, Jeff and Rusty, and Glyn Brown and her sons David and Robert.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Kennedy; grandson, Colin Kennedy Ross; son-in-law, Dr. Floyd Lewis Jr.; father, Lusher Dixon; mother and stepfather, Frankie Bickham Wascom and Denver Wascom; sisters, Linda Pounds, Joan Wascom; brother-in-law, Frank Cesario; and other family members, Rueben and Blanche Smith, Pat Smith, Diane Smith, Dave Brown, Doug Brown.

Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home on Tuesday, Feb. 19, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. and after 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 20. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, with Dr. Joe Baugh and the Rev. Joey Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Crain Cemetery at Stateline.

Pallbearers will be Brendan Ross, Jason Kennedy, Jeremy Kennedy, Justin Kennedy, Nathan Gertson, Cade Corbell and Eduardo Menendez. Honorary pallbearers will be Ron Legere and Vance Wascom.
