Michael “Mike” Reid Schilling passed away at his home on Jan. 10, 2019, at the age of 59. Born on Jan. 12, 1959, in Bogalusa, Mike graduated from Bogalusa High School in 1977 and Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond in 1982.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Deborah (Debbie) Paige Schilling; son, Michael Schilling and wife Abbie; daughter, Laura Schilling Kintner and husband Bryant; grandchildren, Theodore Byron, Eleanor Lynn, and Lucille Rose Schilling; brother, Jim Schilling and wife Henrietta; and sister, Lisa Schilling. He is preceded in death by his parents, Byron and Elaine Schilling.

Mike was introduced to music at a young age by his parents and he had a deep love for all forms. He sang, played the trumpet and piano, and even dabbled some with the guitar. Church was where he spent most of his time singing in the choir and Praise Team. He also had a love of food — both eating and cooking. In fact, he took a six-month sabbatical from work and trained under Chef Paul Prudhomme in his Louisiana Kitchen in New Orleans. His entire family benefitted from those learned culinary skills and the delicacies he prepared for them.

His entire professional career was spent in business and finance after his graduation from Southeastern. His favorite spot was in Colorado with a view of the mountains and Aspen trees, which he and Debbie enjoyed visiting. But his greatest joy came from the gathering of family and friends. Mike and Debbie were proud parents and grandparents and together they fostered a devotion to church and the support of Christian Faith. He was a member of Westside Emmanuel Baptist Church beginning with his enrollment on the Cradle Roll and on into his last days. Mike was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, Papa, and friend — and he will be missed by all who loved and knew him.

The service celebrating his life was held at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home in Bogalusa. Visitation began on Tuesday, Jan. 15, at 9 a.m. and continued until the funeral service began at 11 a.m. The Rev. Marcus Rosa officiated. Interment followed at Paige Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank friends, extended family, and their loving church family at Westside Emmanuel Baptist Church for their prayers and support.
