Kim Harper

Kim, as we called her, was born to Lois Harper and Willie Ray Brumfield in Bogalusa on Sept. 3, 1959. She lived with her grandparents, Alexander and LouAnna Graves Harper, until the age of 6, and moved to be with her mother in Los Angeles, Calif., until 2012.

She received Christ at the tender age of 6, and was baptized at Sweet Beulah Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. M. K. Duncan. In California, she joined Corner Stone Baptist Church, pastored by the late Rev. James Cleveland.

Kim graduated from Los Angeles High School in 1977 and later attended Los Angeles Technical College, majoring in legal technology. Prior to completion, she began working for Northrop Grumman Aerospace Corporation in Hawthorne, Calif., for over 18 years as a senior accountant. She then joined Consolidated Disposal Corporation and remained there for another 18 years in the accounting department. In 2012, she and her niece, Camille, moved to Bogalusa to be near her family.

She leaves to mourn: her devoted mother, Lois Harper of Bogalusa; a loving sister, Valerie Wade-Williams and her husband, Jassonn of Long Beach, Calif.; a beloved niece, Camille Wade of Bogalusa; two aunts, Wilene Gordon of Austin, Texas, and Doris L. Harper of Bogalusa; one uncle, Floyd Harper of Las Vegas, Nev.; and special cousins, Deborah Torrence, Lydia (William) Johnson and Ryan Lawrence.

Kim was preceded in death by her father, Willie Ray Brumfield; beloved grandparents, Alexander and LouAnna Graves Harper; one aunt, Ardessie Peters; and three uncles, Charlie Harper, John Elgin Harper and Alex Charles Harper.

The funeral service will be Saturday, Jan. 5, at 11 a.m. at Crain and Sons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Danny Young officiating.
