Ronald Mitchell

Ronald E. Mitchell, “Ronnie,” passed away peacefully in his home Dec. 31, 2018. He was surrounded by his devoted wife, Carol, and his daughters, Amanda Mitchell Parker and Melanie Mitchell Shook.

Ronnie was a devoted and loving father and grandfather. He was an educator and teller of history for Bogalusa City Schools. He touched the lives of many through his stories and wisdom. Ronnie served his country honorably during the Vietnam conflict as a member of the search and rescue team. After his service he returned to Bogalusa and attended Southeastern Louisiana University and connected with Carol, his wife of 45 years.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Patten Mitchell; two daughters, Amanda Mitchell Parker and Melanie Mitchell Shook; grandchildren, Will, Gracie, and Reid; his siblings, Delores (Ray) Clayton, Patricia Grosche, Mickey Mitchell, Greg Mitchell, and Jeff Mitchell; his mother-in-law, Lois W. Patten; sister-in-law, Susan Morris (Bowen); and brother-in-law, Doug Patten (Joni). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, W.E. “Red” and Judy Mitchell, and his father-in-law, Hershel Patten.

His family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to Elizabeth Sullivan Memorial United Methodist Church in his name or a charity of your choice.

Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home has been entrusted with his arrangements. A celebration of his life will be held at a later time.
