Douglas Guy

Douglas Edwin Guy, 88, a resident of Franklinton, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2018, at Good Samaritan Living Center.

He was born May 17, 1930, in Angie, and grew up helping in the family business H. H. Guy Market and General Merchandise Store in Angie. Douglas joined the U.S. Army, where he served as a Corporal in the 777-7 Signal Service Corps in England and occupied Nuremberg, Germany, at the end of World War II. He returned home and later married Laura May Wood on July 4, 1951. Douglas began a career at Crown Zellerbach working in the box plant and later retired after 35 years of service. He always enjoyed fishing and being in the outdoors. Thank you Daddy for so many memories.

He is survived by: three sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry Wayne and Sheila D. Guy, James Douglas and Jeannie D. Guy, and Thomas Howard and Cindy E. Guy, all of Franklinton; five grandchildren and spouses, Curt L. and Melina Guy, Laura M. Guy, Amanda L. and Slade Bateman, James A. and Ashley Guy; four great-grandchildren, Austin Guy, Ryder Ard, Hunter Bateman and Maicee Bateman; sister, Doris M. Pope; sister in law, Dorothy L. Guy; 12 nephews and nieces, Paul Humber, Sheral Ann Horvath, Larry Pope, Emmett Guy, Russell Guy, Richard Guy, Charles Wood, Melany Rauch, Thomas Wood, Helen Wood, Susan Miller and James Wood; a longtime friend, Levrett Hunt; and also numerous great-nephews and great-nieces.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, that he missed so much, Laura May Wood Guy; his parents, Howard Hamilton Guy Sr. and Ethel Mae Adams Guy; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Howard Hamilton Guy Jr. and Lloyce Humber Guy, Richard O. Guy and Alla Mac Guy; two brothers, Thomas D. “Tommy” Guy, Emmett Worth Guy; sister and brother-in-law, Helen L. Blackwell and Jack Blackwell; brother-in-law, Winston R. Pope; grandson, Joshua Adam Guy; and nephew, Donald R. Pope.

Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home on Sunday, Dec. 16, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, with the Rev. Tony Hicks officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Hezekiah Magee Cemetery.

The family wishes to express a sincere thank you to the staffs of Good Samaritan Living Center and Community Care Hospice for their kindness and support.

Pallbearers will be Andy Guy, Curt Guy, Slade Bateman, Jeremy Mizell, Luis Tepec and Randy Thomas. Honorary pallbearers will be Levrett Hunt, Emmett Guy, Russell Guy, Larry Pope, Richard Guy and Hudson Jones.
