Lanester McKay

Lanester McKay was born in Bogalusa to the late Albert and Ganey Brumfield McKay.

Lanester, a.k.a. “Lanny Boy,” lived in Franklinton. He later moved to California for a few years. He returned to Franklinton, where he worked as a steel laborer for many years.

Lanny Boy also worked as a handyman, helping the community doing odds and ends work. He was known by many.

Lanester McKay joined New Hope Methodist Church at an early age under the leadership of the late Rev. Harly Garrett. He also was a brief member of Sweet Rest Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Mallory Callahan. There, he served on the men’s usher board.

He leaves to cherish his memories: one daughter, Erica McKay (Jeremy Green) of Dallas, Texas; one son, Jamie McKay (Lisa) of Slidell; one stepson, Pastor Nakia McKay (First Lady Kelisha) of Covington; four brothers, Lonnie (Betty) McKay of Franklinton, Alvin McKay of Franklinton, LaRon McKay of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Larry McKay of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Lymonia Hart of Franklinton and Elma Lee McKay of Houston.

Lanester was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Ganey McKay; and nephew, Benny McKay.

Cook-Richmond Chapel of Franklinton will host the viewing on Saturday, Dec. 15, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., followed by the service from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. The repast will be at 1518 Bene St. in Franklinton. The Rev. Nakia McKay will be officiating.
