Benjamin Alfred “Ben” Jones Jr., 76, a resident of Franklinton, died Saturday afternoon, Nov. 17, 2018, at St. Tammany Parish Hospital.

He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of First Baptist Church of Franklinton. Ben was retired after a career as a support specialist with Xerox Business Solutions. He loved to go camping and often traveled in his camper to the Gulf Coast or to Shreveport to visit his beloved grandchildren. Ben enjoyed playing golf with his Walking Group and always loved the monthly social gatherings with his good friends in The Porch Group and Poker Group. Ben had a special place in his heart for his pet dog, “Prissy Girl.”

He is survived by his wife, Martha Jones of Franklinton; two daughters and a son-in-law, Cynthia Jones of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Julie Montgomery Bedsole and Karl Bedsole of Shreveport; grandchildren, Wesley Montgomery Bedsole and Whitney Michelle Bedsole; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Barbara Chitwood of Franklinton, Betty and Michael Elliot of Poplarville, Miss., and Beverly Young of Franklinton; step-sister and brother-in-law, Charlene and Tim Buckley of Columbia, Miss.; step-brother and sister-in-law, Craig and Anita Talley of Joplin, Mo.; and also numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Shane Jones; daughter, Jan Michelle Montgomery; father and step-mother, Benjamin A. Jones Sr. and Arline Jones; mother and step-father, Lora and Reynolds Sutterfield; a brother, Brannon Jones; and a brother-in-law, Earl Nelson.

Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home on Tuesday, Nov. 20, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. A funeral service was held in the funeral home chapel at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, with the Rev. Larry Stafford and the Rev. Joey Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Fisher United Methodist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial donations to the Charles and Jan Montgomery Scholarship Fund c/o First Baptist Church of Franklinton (950 Self St., Franklinton, LA 70438).

Pallbearers were Ronald Pope, Bob Smith, Richard Jenkins, Ron McGlothlin, Rich Richardson, Rickey Magee and Jimmy Stafford. Honorary pallbearers were his many friends in The Porch Group and The Poker Group.
