“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my race I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:4).

Mrs. Irene P. Myres was born to the union of the late David Peters and Mandy P. Peters in Angie on June 27, 1921, and she departed this life on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2018, at Our Lady of the Angels Hospital in Bogalusa at the age of 97.

Irene was wed to the late Jesse Myres Sr. and to this union nine children were born. Being born in 1921, Irene faced many challenges; however, being able to cast her first vote for our first African-American president was a proud moment for her, as she expressed this to her children and grandchildren.

She was a member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Ivy Williams and then her great-nephew, Rev. Sidney Burns Jr.

She leaves to cherish her memories: four children, Vernell Myres, Jessie M. (David) May, Jesse Myres Jr. and Annie R. (Robert) Peters of Angie; one stepson, Rev. Ottis “Boot” (Trenell) Myres of Sandy Hook, Miss.; one god-daughter, Jackie Nicholson of Bogalusa; two special granddaughters, Veronica (Curtis) Gatlin of Bogalusa and Claudia Myres of Albany; 103 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; special friend and neighbors, Hazel Lee Abrams and Sharon Graves of Angie; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Myres Sr.; five children, Earl Lee Myres, Wilbert L. Myres, Clody Ree Myres, Arginettia Myres Smith and Florence Myres Spikes; and 12 brothers and sisters, Idella P. Magee, Minnie P. Magee, Lola P. Brown, Estelle P. Roberts, Rebecca Peters, Alton Peters, Kelly Peters, Thomas J. Peters, Roosevelt Peters, Edward Peters, Eliza P. Parker and Pete Peters.

Visitation will be held Friday, Nov. 23, at the chapel of Crain and Sons Funeral Home in Bogalusa, from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m., with a family hour from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, Nov. 24, at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Angie at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Sidney Burns Jr., pastor, officiating.

Interment will be in Dillon Cemetery in Angie.
