Fair flag to be raised Friday

The Washington Parish Fair flag will be raised officially in Bogalusa on Friday, marking the official start of fair season.
The ceremony will take place at Bogalusa City Hall, starting at 9:30 a.m. At the beginning of the event, there will be a performance by the Bogalusa High School band, Paperdolls, Majorettes and flag team, under the direction of band director Chad Harry.
At 10 a.m., there will be a welcome by Jackie Boone, president of the Fair Association Executive Committee. Chris Wheeler of Enon Baptist Church will provide the invocation.
Boone will then introduce noteworthy citizens in attendance, including membership chairman Mike Breland, the fair board and executive committee chairman, and elected officials including Bogalusa Mayor Wendy Perrette.
Kayla Magee, the 2017 Washington Parish Fair Queen, will then speak on the significance of the flag’s colors.
Following Magee, the flag will be raised by the Bogalusa High School Jr. ROTC cadets and color guard, under the direction of First Sgt. Jack Rogers.
A pledge to the United States flag will be held by the American Legion Post 24. Jeanna Wheat will then sing the national anthem.
Also during the ceremony, there will be a singing performance by Northshore Charter School fifth grade, Anaya Jackson, Kyra Whitaker, Erin Lewis, Shalin Harry, Alyssa Williams, Abigail Welch and Avery Kissling. The music will be performed by the BHS band, under Chad Harry’s direction.
Boone will then close the ceremony. The flag will remain flying until the fair, which is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 17, through Saturday, Oct. 20, at the fairgrounds in Franklinton.
