Daily News to end Friday edition

The Daily News will cease publishing a Friday edition, starting in September, Publisher Justin Schuver announced this week.

“Due to a variety of factors, it is no longer feasible for The Daily News to print three editions a week,” Schuver said. “However, readers should not be concerned — we will continue to offer the same award-winning coverage of Bogalusa and Washington Parish that we have always offered.”

Schuver said that although the Friday newspaper will be going away, the size of the Wednesday and weekend editions will be increased to make up for the change. As a result, readers will be able to expect more stories, more photos, and more coverage in their Wednesday and weekend editions.

“Previously, we may have only been able to publish one or two photos from an event,” Schuver said. “But with the larger newspaper editions, we will be able to publish many more. That is just one example of the improved coverage that we will be able to provide our readers, as a result of this change.”

In addition, the newspaper’s website (www.bogalusadailynews.com) will continue to be updated daily — in particular when breaking news happens.

Schuver said that economic changes in the newspaper industry — including the increased price of newsprint — forced The Daily News to make the decision.

There will be no Friday edition published Sept. 7.
