Perry Barker

On Aug. 19, 2018, Perry “Pete” James Barker departed his life on this earth and went to be with the Lord.

He was born on Jan. 8, 1928, to Mr. Arion “Sonny Boy” Barker and Elouise Pittman Barker in Washington Parish. He attended Washington Parish High School and worked several jobs in and out of state before retiring with the Creel Brothers of Franklinton.

He leaves to mourn his daughters, Terri Lynn Dykes of Franklinton, and Erica Packs of Covington; his father, Arion Barker; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; his sisters, Brenda Duncan of Ft. Worth, Texas, Marie Barker, Mary Ann and Meshell Barker all of Franklinton; his brother, Jerry Barker (Sylvia) Franklinton, Byron (Alfreda) Barker Bogalusa; a special niece, Kay Kay “Bad Baby” Barker.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Elouise P. Barker; sister, Eula Mae Barker Bickham; brother, Larry Joseph Barker; and granddaughter, Natasha Dykes.

“Pete” loved his “Bad Baby” and gave her everything she wanted. He was a fun person to be around and you would have known he was in the room when you walked in any event. He loved family gatherings, his blues and all of his friends.

Visitation was held on Thursday, Aug. 23, from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m., followed by a family hour from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m., at Crain and Sons Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be Friday, Aug. 24, at Sweet Rest Missionary Baptist Church at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Dr. Mallery Callahan, pastor, and the Rev. Mallery Callahan II, officiating. Interment will be in Sweet Rest Memorial Park.
