Mary Nelson

Sister Mary Nelson passed away on Aug. 6, 2018, at St. Joseph Hospice Carpenter House in River Ridge.

Mary was born on March 21, 1939, to Nazaree “Popper Stopper” Nelson Sr. and Mary Lee Herring Nelson. Mary was the second child of 13 children. She was a former member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church and a dedicated member of Main Street Baptist Church. She was an active and faithful member under the leadership of Pastor Patrick Magee.

Mary leaves to cherish her memories: her siblings, Steve H. (Barbara) Nelson of Bogalusa, David Nelson of San Francisco, Calif., Margaret Mabry of Bogalusa, Diane Robinson of Bogalusa, Cythina N. Pernell of Minneapolis, Minn., Dessie J. Carson of Bogalusa, and Robert Randy Nelson of Tangipahoa; an uncle, Prince Herring of McComb, Miss.; a god-daughter, Aristine (Jerrime) James; god-grandchildren, Jeremiah Simmons and Blessyn James; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.

Visitation will be Friday, Aug. 17, from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Cook-Richmond Funeral Home in Bogalusa. The funeral service will be Saturday, Aug. 18, at 1p.m., at the Main Street Baptist Church. Interment will be in Bogalusa Cemetery.
