Two suspects were arrested Sunday after attempting to bring contraband items to the B.B. “Sixty” Rayburn Correctional Center, according to RCC Warden Robert Tanner.
Tanner said that John Raynell Williams, 26, and Keaiata Marie Smith, 21, arrived at RCC on Sunday to visit an offender housed at the facility.
“The couple was advised what items that were considered contraband and given an opportunity to declare any unauthorized items when they arrived at the facility,” Tanner said. “After stating they did not have anything illegal, their vehicle, a silver Infiniti FX35, was searched.”
Tanner said that RCC officers found a partial bottle of alcohol and a loaded semi-automatic firearm in the vehicle. By law, both items are considered contraband when brought into a correctional facility without authorization.
Williams and Smith were detained at the facility until they were arrested by Washington Parish sheriff’s deputies and transported to the Washington Parish Jail.
Williams was charged with introduction of contraband into a penal facility and with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. Smith was charged with introduction of contraband into a penal facility.
