Shirley Forbes

Shirley “Patsy” Brister Forbes, 81, a resident of Thomas, died Sunday afternoon, July 15, 2018, at the Good Samaritan Living Center.

She was a member of Thomas First Baptist Church, where she was a long-time Sunday school director and the WMU Director for 40 years. She was a Christian woman that loved her Lord with all her heart.

Patsy was an excellent cook and loved hosting and feeding her family and friends. Though she made many outstanding dishes, her specialty was pies, be it either egg, coconut, pecan or many types, that she often took to the sick or needy within her community. It brought her great joy to share that simple blessing with others. She enjoyed tending to her flower garden and loved her visits to Colorado. Patsy was a loving wife, mother and grandmother that cared deeply for all those closest to her.

She is survived by: four daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Phillip Branch of Tylertown, Miss., Linda and Richard Thomas of Thomas, Johnnie and Mike Whisenhunt of Hammond, and Karen and Bret Denison of Manassas, Va.; grandchildren and spouses, Jennifer and Danny Thomas, Kamala and Jeremy Aaron, Brandon Branch and Jim Johnston, Rick and Megan Thomas, Joshua Hunt, John-Michael and Jennifer Whisenhunt, Colbye and Bucky Erwin, Kayce and Mark Danos, Bethany Hunt, Mark and Callie Whisenhunt, and D.J. Denison; great-grandchildren, Shelbye Branch, Abby Thomas, Carson Thomas, Ryleigh Erwin, Cooper Thomas, Lola Aaron, Graceson Erwin, Audrey Thomas, Piper Erwin, John Butler Erwin, Camden Thomas, Zay Danos, Lucy Danos, Jack Whisenhunt, Ava and Avery Erwin, and Lillie and Gracie Danos; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Pat Brister, Mike and Nancy Brister, Ricky and Helen Brister, Fred and Denise Brister; sisters and brothers-in-law, Beth Bonin, Kay and Warren Blackwell, and Scherean Brister; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Janell Dillon, Dick and Stella Forbes, Walton Forbes, Sylvia Forbes and Clara Forbes; and also numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, John Allen Forbes; parents, J.H. Brister and Lola Whittington Brister; and a sister, Gwen Brister.

Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 18, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, with the Rev. Bucky Erwin, the Rev. Shadd Pittman and the Rev. Fred Brister officiating. Burial will follow in the Thomas Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Branch, Rick Thomas, Joshua Hunt , John-Michael Whisenhunt, Danny Thomas and Carson Thomas. Honorary pallbearers will be Phillip Branch, Richard Thomas, Mike Whisenhunt, Bret Denison, Mark Whisenhunt and Jim Johnston.
